Topic/Speaker:

How Lynchburg Responded to a Major Crisis to Stabilize a Dam and a City
Timothy Mitchell, Director of Lynchburg Water Resources

The Challenges of Working with Multiple Stakeholders to Contain a Crisis
Jes Gearing, Public Information Officer Lynchburg Water Resources

On August 2, the City of Lynchburg found itself facing a potentially catastrophic dam failure at College Lake.  With no warning or preparation, the City conducted an evacuation of more than 100 homes within 90 minutes and secured the dam and its accompanying roadway.  At the same time, the City faced unprecedented media attention once the story broke across national and international news organizations.  In this webinar, Tim Mitchell, Director, and Jes Gearing, Public Information Officer, of Lynchburg Water Resources will discuss how the City successfully managed the emergency event and its accompanying media circus and will provide lessons learned for how other cities can handle events like this in the future.
